abstract = "We study the anti-plane shear waves in a domain consisting of two rigidly connected elastic layers, taking into account the surface effects on both faces. The elastic properties of both layers are different. Accounting for both the surface stresses and the surface inertia within the Gurtin–Murdoch surface elasticity, we derive the dispersion equation corresponding to the exponential decay of waves in the layers from the faces. The effects of surface stresses and inertia, the layer thickness as well as of the ratio of shear moduli of the layers on the dispersion curves are analyzed. The procedure for estimating the surface shear modulus and density is proposed.",
