Abstract

Oxidative damage is an important cause of fatigue and it can have a serious negative impact on the epigenetic aspects of the offspring. Supplementation with antioxidant components from food can be beneficial. The liquid formulations made from fruits had good rheological properties and antioxidant effects. Notably, the optimized liquid formulations significantly increased glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase and catalase activity, while decreasing the level of malondialdehyde in mice and their offspring. It also prolonged swimming time, increased the liver glycogen level and reduced lactic acid and the blood urea nitrogen. The analysis of fatigue and oxidative stress-related genes and proteins using a Western blot and quantitative real-time PCR showed that the liquid formulations alleviated fatigue through both the AMPK/PGC-1α and Nrf2 signaling pathways. In conclusion, these results indicated that the liquid formulations protected against fatigue-induced oxidative damage.
