Anisotropic thermal expansion behaviors of AL18B4o33 whisker-reinforced aluminum matrix composites

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

The thermal expansion behaviors of Al18B4O33 whisker-reinforced aluminum matrix composites prepared by squeeze casting were studied. The results show that the composites exhibit a significant anisotropy in the Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE) attributed to the preferred orientation of whiskers. A whisker distribution function model was established based on the thermoelasticity theory. The calculation results according to the model are highly consistent with the test results within a low temperature range.
