Abstract

This paper describes a method for analyzing wind-induced vibrations of transmission towers coupled with power lines in mountainous areas. The time histories of wind speed acting on transmission line systems are simulated with the harmony superposition method. It discusses the mean displacements at towers' tip, the unbalanced tensions and uplift forces of towers which are in different elevations and wind directions. It also discusses the vibration frequency spectrums of tower. The numerical results show that the mean displacement at tower' tip and uplift force of tower which is at the top of mountain are maximal. However, the unbalanced tension of tower which is on the hillside is maximal. It is concluded that the displacement at tower's tip is mainly influenced by the vibration of wires. However, velocity and acceleration at tower's tip are mainly imposed by the primary frequency and first mode shape of tower.
