Abstract

In the paper, it has carried on the study about the issues of rotor mechanical strength of the interior permanent magnet synchronous in-wheel motor with high speed and large torque. Through the comparison of the equivalent methods and FEM with different PM materials, the precision application conditions of the equivalent ring method is determined. Then the rotor preliminary design is determined by parametric analysis for the thickness of magnetic bridge and rib. According to the results of simulation and the prototype experiment, the optimization scheme with fillet and triangualr magnetic bridge combined with adjusting safety air-gap length is proposed to be feasible to meet the rotor mechanical strength.
