Abstract

Different from conventional microwave radar, the detection performance of the high-frequency surface-wave radar (HFSWR) is significantly influenced by external environment due to its working system and characteristics. On the basis of HFSWR's detecting mechanism towards sea, this paper derived a HFSWR equation, set up a simulation model which takes main influencing factors such as HF radio propagation, sea states, environmental noise and sea clutter into account. The environmental effect on HFSWR detection performance under various scenarios is simulated and analyzed with the model. The simulation system established provides an enhanced means of optimizing HFSWR system design and evaluating the performance.
