Abstract
Ultra-wideband antenna technology has a wide range of potential applications and the transverse electro-magnetic (TEM) horn antenna is a representative ultra-wideband antenna. Based on analysis of this horn's radiation equation, the impedance and radiation characteristics of an ultra-wideband TEM horn antenna with a floorboard structure was analyzed. It has a simple structure, consisting of a triangular metal plate and a floorboard, and is fed by a coaxial-line. By analyzing the transmission characteristics, a model was simulated and fabricated. The results show that between 1 GHz and 18 GHz, reflection coefficient is below -10 dB and gain is above 8 dB; between 2 GHz-14 GHz, gain is above 12 dB. Measurement results show that this antenna has good impedance characteristics, satisfactory directivity and group delay characteristics, and this antenna has perfect theoretical and applied values for impulse radiation communication systems and ultra-wideband radar.
