Abstract

We propose an M-Z fiber interferometer as a sensor in which the signal arm is coupled to a fiber ring resonator instead of the conventional application of dispersive materials. Theoretically it is shown that the sensitivity of such interferometer can be much higher than that of a conventional interferometer as a result of the dispersion properties of the ring resonator. Optimization of the sensitivity performance then proves that sensitivity reaches the maximum when the resonator is critical-coupled.
