Abstract

This paper presents a high-misalignment tolerance inductive power transfer (IPT) system. Due to the fact charging targets are difficult to accurately match the designed position, the misalignment tolerance of the IPT system is necessary. The topology proposed followed, named PS/SP (primary parallel and series, secondary series parallel), has plenty of benefits. It fulfils not only high tolerance of misalignment but the zero-phase-angle operation (ZPA). As the angle of equivalent input impedance can be adjusted by the value of the compensation inductance, this topology can choose an appreciate input impedance angle of the system to realize ZVS and decrease switching loss. The parameters of other components are also given. A prototype of the PS/SP topology with approximately 250 W was built. It has great tolerance of misalignment and a peak efficiency of 94.4%. The angle of input impendence is adjusted for soft switching at the largest coupling coefficient and the MOSFETs have fulfilled ZVS.
