Abstract

If the arch bridge suspenders are idealized as taut strings, this idealization simplifies the analysis that may introduce unacceptable errors in many applications. Analyzed the errors' cause, a simple and advantage application formula for the vibration method are proposed herein taking the effects of bending stiffness and terminal condition of the suspenders into account. Utilizing the testing natural frequency, the suspender tensions are easily estimated by this formula. At last, the capabilities of this formula are demonstrated through examples, the results show that the computing values of using this formula is well coincided with the theory values by the finite element method.
