Abstract

In this paper, a low profile, planar ultrawideband modular antenna array loaded with frequency selective surface (FSS) is implemented. Through the tightly coupled elements and the extra FSS layer between dipole radiator and ground plane, the bandwidth of PUMA array is effectively extended. A 16.5:1 bandwidth, low profile(0.054low) antenna array with good scanning performance is realized, and the scanning angles of E-plane and H-plane reaches 60° and 45°.
