Abstract
To explore the seismic dissipation ablitity of a new type of mild steel damper added damping and stiffness with a diamond shape hollow in-plane, the restoring force model of this damper was investigated by conducting the cyclic loading tests to six specimen groups. Two one-bay and three-story steel frames with equal elastic stiffress were designed and tested respectively on the shaking table. One of them was added with stiffness by the mild steel damping device, the other one was braced by ordinary bracing systems. Results show that the new type damper possesses the stable hysteretic capacity and fatigue resistance capacity, which can effectively control and reduce the acceleration and the displacement of a building.
