Abstract

Network Coordinate Systems (NCSs) can estimate network distances between any pairs of Internet node, and improve performance of large distributed system on the Internet. They have been applied in various applications for their efficiency and accuracy. However, they are vulnerable to attacks. In this paper, we focus on the security of NCSs, and explore the impact of attacks against them. Additionally, we propose a simple method based on experience that can avoid a single point of failure. We apply our method to Vivaldi and evaluate its performance. The experimental results show its effectiveness.
