Abstract

A new error recovery scheme for satellite direct-to-home (DTH) multicast communications is proposed in this paper. With the aid of XOR encoding and decoding, the new error recovery scheme can recover several damaged packets in one retransmission. Moreover, an optimal retransmission algorithm based on retransmission matrix preprocessing is designed to minimize the number of retransmissions. The onboard buffering and processing contribute to alleviating the influence of long propagation delays of the GEO satellite links, reducing the recovery time by half of the RTT. Analysis and simulation results show the efficiency of the proposed scheme.
