abstract = "The impedance change of the exciting coil caused by a linear metal barcode label was given. The expression of the inter bit interference (IBI) was investigated and it was similar to the inter symbol interference in the communication theory. The conditions for avoiding IBI were investigated. These predictions had been proven quite reliable by simulations. Some further suggestions on trading-off IBI against the barcode density were also given.",
