Abstract

An ammonia electrolytic cell with NiCu/C as anode catalyst for hydrogen production is presented. The electrochemical oxidation of ammonia was investigated on NiCu/C catalyst prepared by a chemical reduction method. It was found that current response of ammonia is strongly dependent on the mass ratio of Ni and Cu. Cyclic voltammetry and polarization curves of cell showed that 50 wt. % Ni50Cu50/C electrode catalyst was energy-effective. The electrolyzer can operate under low cell voltage to save energy in hydrogen production.
