N2 - Independent zoning control is required when system operates in asynchronous interconnection mode. Increasing penetration of wind power in zoning control area has a negative effect on system frequency deviation. In this paper, key constraint factors for smoothing wind power fluctuations by automatic generation control (AGC) are discussed. The results show that generation rate constrains (GRCs) of AGC unit is the main constraint factor. By processing the measured wind power data, an AGC feedforward control strategy based on measured wind power is proposed. Applying this feedforward control strategy, frequency deviation in the zoning control area with wind power fluctuations is reduced. The proposed control strategy has been verified and tested using the data of actual Guangdong power system.
