Abstract
This paper conducts an experimental investigation of the aerodynamic force coefficients of a thin plate under the combined action of wind and waves. A series of aerodynamic tests were conducted in the combined wind-wave-current flume. The influence of different parameters (wave height H, wave period T and wind speed U) on the aerodynamic force coefficients within the angle of attack range −6∘≤α≤6∘ was investigated. The experimental results indicated that the aerodynamic coefficients of the low-clearance thin plate fluctuated periodically with respect to the wave boundary. In order to investigate the impact of the wave boundary on the aerodynamic coefficients, the pressure distribution at various characteristic moments was provided. In addition, the wave boundary effects on the first three Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) modes were examined. Meanwhile, estimation formulas were developed to describe the aerodynamic coefficients of the thin plate. This investigation provided valuable insights into the design of low-clearance structures in a wind-wave coupled field.
