Abstract

The recent advances in the isolation, fractionation and characterization technologies for natural organic matter (NOM) are reviewed on the basis of analyzing the source and hazard of natural organic matter. The isolation and fractionation technologies are introduced concretely, the production efficiency, the advantages and disadvantages of each method are compared and summarized. The technologies of the reverse osmosis, XAD resin and membrane separation are stated to be the most effective isolation and fractionation methods. The analytical technologies for NOM including the spectrum, chromatogram, NMR and atomic force microscopy are enumerated, and the corresponding structural and physicochemical characteristics related to each analytical result are summarized.
