Abstract

This paper addresses the integrated water resources management for water deficient areas, considering desalinated seawater, wastewater and reclaimed water. Adapted from our previous work (Liu et al., 2011), a two-step optimisation approach is proposed. In step 1, an approximation model with an estimation on the pumping costs is solved to determine the plant locations. Then a reduced full model is solved with determined locations in step 2. At last, The proposed approach is applied to a case study of Santorini island, and shows better performance than our previous model.
