Abstract

A piezoelectric semi-infinite media with a surface electrode under an electric impulse is investigated. The problem is solved by Laplace transform and integral equation technique. It is found that the electrode tip electromechanical field is singular and can be described by the concept of electric displacement intensity factor. Effect of electrode size on the electrode tip field is discussed in details. The results further demonstrate that the transient electric displacement intensity factor is always weaker than the corresponding steady value. The modelling approach allows for a better understanding of the overall effects in piezoelectric materials with surface electrodes.
