Abstract
Inexpensive energy and advances in building technology have led to a divide between indoors and outdoors of residential buildings. Constructions are no longer built in response to the natural climate and instead now contribute to climate change through the production of greenhouse gasses. Based on the issue of wind environment of residential buildings in severe cold region, this paper studied how to apply natural ventilation to residential design. Referring to the climate feature in severe cold region of China, it put forward design requirements of wind environment for residential buildings accordingly. Furthermore, through the analysis of simulation results by CFD, it explored the design strategies by overall planning and architectural measures. Thus, it can meet the demands of both inhabitants comfort and energy efficiency.
