Abstract

The southeast coastal area is one of the wind-rich regions in China, however, it is also a complex terrain which is heavily affected by tropical cyclones. In order to improve the wind turbine design code under the effect of tropical cyclone, firstly, we use the wind-tunnel experimental data to validate the accuracy of the numerical model. Then according to the statistical data of tropical cyclone in China, the benefit and damage type are selected to compare with the NTM and the ETM in IEC standard. By analyzing the distribution of the average wind speed, turbulent kinetic energy and turbulent intensity, it shows that the turbulent intensity of the benefit tropical cyclone is between the NTM and the ETM, while the turbulent intensity of the damage tropical cyclone is higher than the NTM and the ETM.
