Abstract

This paper reports an Nd:YVO4 laser employing a double-corner-cube-retroreflector (DCCR) ring cavity for bidirectional asymmetric single-longitudinal-mode emission. By inserting three Fabry–Pérot etalons into the cavity, stable bidirectional single-longitudinal-mode operation is achieved, with maximum output powers of 1.385 W and 0.322 W, respectively. As the pump power increases, the output power ratio between the two beams varies from 1.63 to 4.30. By shifting the intrinsic balance between gain and loss, this bidirectional asymmetric coherent laser enables asymmetric control of the laser power.
