Abstract

This paper reviewed and analyzed the biosorption of heavy metals by waste sludge produced from industrial processes such as wastewater treatment. Various aspects of biosorption process, including pretreatment techniques, biosorption mechanisms, major impacting factors of biosorption, reactors and treatment efficiencies, were summarized. The paper also discussed the development tendency of this technology, and proposed that the combination of biosorption processes with existing sewage treatment plants would be the most promising way for its further application.
