Abstract

In order to study the effects of the parameters of automatic braking system on the risk of pedestrian MAIS3+ injury and fatality, and to find the appropriate parameters suiting to China's road traffic conditions, the regression equations are constructed, which describe the relationship between the impact speed and the risks of pedestrian MAIS3+ injury and fatality for cab-behind-engine vehicles, based on logic regression analysis. With considerations of two accident cases of driver swerving and having no time to swerve, a mathematical model for the position of pedestrian relative to vehicle before accident is established, and the effects of the parameters of automatic braking system, including the detection angle, the maximum braking deceleration and the times for braking initiation and coordination, on the reduction of risks of pedestrian MAIS3+ injury and fatality are statistically analyzed, with a set of optimal parameters obtained. The research can provide certain theoretical basis for the design and improvement of domestic automatic braking system.
