Abstract

Flexible transit has significant advantages such as flexible service and cost saving, especially in low-density demand areas. This paper proposes a regional transit dispatching algorithm for flexible transit by computing the optimal location for the inserted station in real time. The penalty fee for rejecting the real-time demand is introduced on the basis of the objective function, and the vehicle dispatching plan is obtained by inserting the real-time demand into the current route of the service area. A case study is conducted and indicates that the method proposed can optimize the allocation of regional vehicle resources and provide a high-quality flexible transit service with real-time demand information.
