N2 - Rectifying effect will appear in most highintensity discharge (HID) lamps at the end of their lives, which would lead to overloading of the lamp control gear (ballast, transformer and starting device). Therefore, adequate protective measures should be taken to ensure the safety under this condition. According to the mechanism of rectifying effect, the simulation model of rectifying effect is built through SIMULINK/MATLAB platform which will play a crucial role for further studying rectifying effect on the impact of the lighting system and establishing the corresponding standards.
