Abstract

In this paper, a novel wide-band frequency selective surface (FSS) based on double-layered hexagonal units is described. The proposed FSS has better wideband performance of 23.6% compared with previous designs. The operating frequency at 12.5 GHz for the application of radome in X-band is obtained by optimizing the coupling of the two layers respectively. In order to improve the broadband performance, an approach is presented and analyzed by controlling the magnetic field inside the structure and the bandwidth is expanded by introducing straight metal strips near the hexagonal loops. To validate the proposed concept, the final design is fabricated, and measured results are also presented and discussed.
