Abstract

Service discovery is becoming an important topic as its use throughout the Internet becomes more widespread. If people need to find a service they would like to use, they will need to use appropriate service discovery protocols. In this paper, we propose Service Discovery with Routing Protocol (SDRP): a novel service discovery protocol combined with the routing policies in MANETs. The protocol is performed on a distributed network. We describe a service with a unique ID number and use a group-cast routing policy for advertising and requesting. The group-cast routing policy reduces network traffic, and also finds destination nodes more efficiently. In addition, the nodes included in the reply path also cache advertisement information, this means when each node subsequently finds the same service, the location is already known, hence minimizing the time consumed for particular requests. Finally, we compare SDRP with both Flood and MAODV in terms of overload, and average delay. Simulation results show the SDRP has lower response time and accommodates even high mobility in network environments.
