Abstract

The existing commercial DBMS is too complex, which make it difficult for students to study DBMS. This paper proposes an novel method to build education oriented mini-DBMS with the support of MiniDB. MiniDB is a software architecture that supports user customized development. Based on MiniDB, some novel modules can be customized and aggregated to realize specific software instances. This paper presents a practical case of MiniDB to construct a education oriented DBMS, and shows the possibility and method of constructing a mini-DBMS with the cooperation of teachers and students. Our practice shows that it is feasible to develop the mini-DBMS which can reduce students' investment in the preliminary work of practice, and help students understand the principle of database through practice.
