A Novel LC-Resonance-Based Decoupling Method for MIMO Microstrip Patch Antennas

Abstract

In this article, a novel structure based on LC resonance is proposed and studied to decouple two closely spaced microstrip patch antennas. The decoupling method including a capacitance and an inductive connecting strip is developed. Then the equivalent circuit diagrams of two patch antennas without and with decoupling structures are represented. The simulated results denote that compared with the original structure, antennas' isolation with decoupling structures is upgraded from 4 dB to better than 14 dB with the edge-to-edge distance of 0.023 λ0 within the bandwidth from 3.39 to 3.62 GHz, where λ0 is the free space wavelength at 3.55 GHz.
