Abstract

Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) are indispensable in ocean exploration. To address their concurrent communication and positioning requirements during underwater operations, Integrated Underwater Communication and Positioning (IUCP) technology has emerged. This letter proposes a novel IUCP algorithm combining Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing and Differential Pulse Position Modulation (OFDM-DPPM), including waveform design and model construction. The OFDM-DPPM scheme demonstrates superior interference resilience and enhanced throughput compared to conventional modulation schemes. Simulations emulating underwater multipath channels validated the advanced performance of OFDM-DPPM in acoustic communication through comparative analysis. Multiple real-test experiments further confirmed its excellent communication performance and high-precision ranging capabilities.
