Abstract

Mass customization (MC) production is a challenge to existing enterprise information systems. To overcome the weaknesses of some traditional bill-of-materials (BOM) models in MC, a novel BOM model is presented. The model employs the product identifier technique to identify and manage product structure data of product variants. By using the hierarchical connection mechanism, the model well supports product modularization design, improves the design efficiency, and reduces the data redundancy. The comparisons with other BOM models and the introductions of practical application system show that the model is flexible, efficient and convenient to be applied in ERP software for MC production.
