Abstract

The young tiger beetle has flexible body and two tough pliers, it can capture and kill a bug in seconds. The paper present the design of a multi-actuator soft robot based on detailed morphological and kinematic investigations of young tiger beetle. 3D printing technology is used to fabricate the crawling, steering and occluding structures. Three actuators are designed to mimic complex movement of the young tiger beetle. Actuator one and actuator two are used to control the movement and turning, and actuator three is used to mimic the bite action. Experiments are carried out to verify the designed multi-actuator soft robot.
