Abstract

Mars has taken center stage in the world's plans for planetary exploration. According to the low speed Mars hopper vehicle, the velocity of hopper vehicle is far less than effective exhaust velocity of Mars rocket engine, which will result in a very low propulsion efficiency of rocket engine. Then a new propulsion system, Mars rocket with ejector nozzle, is proposed. This new propulsion system utilizes jet injection to increase the exit mass flow rate and to reduce the exit velocity of rocket engine, then the propulsion efficiency of rocket engine increases. The working principle of Mars rocket with ejector nozzle is analyzed, the performance index is defined, and the performance of Mars rocket with ejector nozzle is analyzed, the results show that the Mars rocket with ejector nozzle can improve the specific impulse of engine, and the gain of performance exits conditions.
