Abstract

Due to the discontinuities in the Hall probe signal, large pulses can be observed in the error obtained with the reluctance actuators. To avoid the abnormal behaviour of the Hall probe sensing circuitry, a method for flux estimation in an electromagnetic actuator is presented. We model the actuator with a lumped-parameter model, which enables us to model the ferromagnetic hysteresis separately from the air gap reluctance. The hysteresis model of actuator is realized with Della Torre implementation of the Preisach model. The observer with an adaptive controller gain permits us to estimate flux from the actuator current and gap measurements without having explicitly to solve for the magnetic field in the actuator core. The simulation results are presented in this paper.
