Abstract

Wind is an important form of resistance in a complex road environment. In traffic flow theory, the effects of wind on traffic flow are mainly manifested in the following ways: firstly, it produces higher speed difference among vehicles; and secondly, it increases the vehicle following distance. In the existing research, the research on the effect of wind on traffic flow is mainly focused on micro traffic flow, while the research on macro traffic flow is relatively less. Based on this, this paper first establishes a microscopic model of the relationship between wind resistance and vehicle speed, and proposes a phase plane analysis based on the stability of traffic flow by investigating the influence of wind factors on the evolution law of macroscopic traffic flow. Eventually, simulation experiments indicate that the model can describe the wind influence phenomenon in real traffic, confirming the important role of wind in road traffic flow.
