Abstract

The Ku band is one of the most commonly used bands in satellite mobile communication systems. This paper introduces an omnidirectional high-gain printed antenna designed specifically for the Ku band. It is an antenna array composed of a continuous transverse stub (CTS) structure and a dipole formed by a pair of triangular patches. The antenna uses a printed structure for miniaturization and low profile, and is fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) and a coaxial line. Simulation results show that the antenna's bandwidth, defined as $\vert S_{11}\vert < -10$ dB, spans from 12.3 GHz to 15.5 GHz, with a relative bandwidth of 23%. The maximum gain of the antenna is 7.3 dBi at 13 GHz, and the roundness is less than 3.3 dB. The designed antenna effectively covers the most commonly used 12-14 GHz band within the Ku band, offering characteristics such as high gain, omnidirectional radiation, and miniaturization, which make it suitable to be applied to mobile communication systems.
