Abstract

We present a high-repetition-rate, high-efficiency ZnGeP2 (ZGP) optical parametric oscillator (OPO) generating mid-infrared (MIR) output at wavelengths of 3.86 µm and 4.59 µm. The OPO pump source comprised a Q-switched Ho:YAG laser operating at 40 kHz pulse repetition frequency, delivering a maximum average output power of 15.8 W with a pulse width of 47.6ns. A doubly-resonant oscillator (DRO) configuration is designed and implemented for the ZGP OPO. This system achieves a maximum MIR output power of 4.24 W. The corresponding overall optical-to-optical conversion efficiency and slope efficiency are determined to be 34.2% and 42.7%, respectively. The output beam quality factor M2is measured as 1.73, and the minimum pulse width is recorded as 31.5 ns.
