A grounded theory approach on the basic elements of soundscape in university campus in China

Abstract

In order to study and improve the campus' soundscape environment, this paper takes University campus' soundscapes in Harbin as a study object, using Grounded Theory as main research method, by selecting twelve campus space users with different identities to make in-depth interviews, collecting data combining methods like observation and comparison method, and making code analysis. This paper then proposes four main categories of campus soundscape, including "individual characteristics", "attention and cognitive psychology", "activity types", and "sound characteristics", as well as twenty-six keywords to provide basic reference for campus soundscape study.
