A Flexible Monopole Rectenna for RF Energy Harvesting

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

This paper proposes a flexible monopole rectenna for harvesting 2.2GHz radio frequency (RF) energy. The designed antenna has an S11 of -19 dB at the frequency of 2.2 GHz and a maximum gain of 1.68 dBi. When the rectifier is connected to a 1K ohm load, its maximum rectification efficiency is 47%, and the output voltage is 1.45V. The overall dimension of the rectenna is 20mm*15mm. The rectenna can power up some low-power wireless sensor nodes and extend their lifespan. This paper verifies the designed antenna with a low-power sensor signal processing chip as the load, demonstrating that the designed rectenna is capable of directly driving certain low-power devices to operate.
