Abstract

A novel electronically steerable radiator and reflector array (ESRRA) antenna is proposed. The antenna based on Three-Dimensional(3-D) Frequency Selective Structure(FSS), which is a recent development, composed of a dipole antenna and number of conformal Three-Dimensional Frequency Selective Structure units and this is the first time that 3-D FSS applied to the scanning antenna which played a good performance. The 3-D FSS units are conformed as a cylindrical around the dipole antenna varactors loaded in 3-D FSS are biased by a 0-10 V continuously variable voltage, that make 3-D FSS units band-stop frequency change from 2.26GHz to 3.7GHz, which means the wave of central frequency (2.26 GHz) could be controlled passing through or reflecting. The Radiation beam changed within the region of 15 degrees can be achieved by adjusting the phase and amplitude to realize more accuracy beam scanning, so this antenna produce a full range of sweeping in the omnidirections and can realize Multi-beam scanning function. Simulation results show that the gain of the antenna can be promoted to 4.4 dB, which is 2dB higher than the gain of dipole antenna and it can be controlled to get beam scanning.
