Abstract

Three dimensional (3D) reconstruction is applied to medicine, especially in robotic surgery assistant systems. By a conventional ultrasonic machine and a position tracker sensor, serial 2D images are produced and used in 3D reconstruction. This paper describes important ultrasonic image processing and a VTK based software used for 3D surface reconstruction. Details of VTK classes are explained. From its application in biological samples, it seems the 3D shapes are suitable on ultrasound-based robotics assisted surgery system (HIT-RAUS).
