Abstract
Semi-solid isothermal treatment of magnesium alloys with high Gd content was investigated. The results reveal that temperature and holding time have the obvious effect on the spheroidization of its semi-solid microstructure. With the increase of temperature, the solid particles in the Mg-Gd alloy are increased firstly and then decreased, which is mainly attributed to the growth trend of grain size, increase of liquid phase in grain boundary, interconnection and segmentation of liquid phase inside grains. The spheroidization effect of grain presents desirable increasingly with the increase of temperature and time, and the roundness of the particles is about 1.1.
