Abstract

A numerical model for solving the wave resistance of underwater submersibles was established to simulate the wave-making characteristics of submarine sailing near the water free surface based on the RANS equation and the Realizable k-ε turbulence model, and the Simple algorithm was used to solve the pressure-velocity coupling term. First, the convergence of the grid and time step was verified, and the accuracy of the present numerical model was verified. Then, the wave-making resistances of a naked SUBOFF submarine model sailing under different submerged depths were calculated, and the wave-making characteristics of submarine with different appendages were studied at different speeds in a specific submerged depth. Research results show that the submarine has the largest wave-making coefficient near Fr=0. 5, and the coefficient is close to 0 when the submerged depth is close to half length of the submarine. A large wave is observed with a tail appendage, while the impact on the wave could be reduced with appendages of both cockpit and tail. The presence of a sudden change in the shape of the submarine produces a large pressure change.
