Abstract

At present, the damper has been widely used in the field of vibration reduction and isolation control of engineering structures. A problem is, however, that the damper cannot fully exert its energy dissipation capacity, because the displacement and the speed of the damper are small under the actions of small and medium earthquakes. Hence, in recent years, the damper response amplification technology has received extensive attention from scholars at home and abroad, and various damper response amplification devices have been developed by making use of link mechanisms, gear mechanisms, lever mechanisms, cross-layer supports, etc. The research and application progress of damper response amplification technology at home and abroad, including its device construction and action mechanism, etc., are comprehensively summarized. In the meanwhile, the shortcomings of the existing damper response amplification technology that they are more likely to fail under extremely rare earthquake are analyzed. Furthermore, the research and development direction of the response amplification technology are suggested, providing a reference for the further research of the response amplification technology. The research results provide ideas for the development of damper response amplification technology and ensuring the safety of engineering structures under extremely rare earthquake.
