Abstract

In order to investigate the mechanical behavior of dove-tail-shaped profiled steel concrete composite shear walls (DSCWs) under compression, six DSCW specimens were tested under axial compression loads, the deformation behavior, failure modes, bearing capacity and stiffness changes were investigated. The testing results indicate that the failure process of all six specimens is beginning from steel sheet elastic local buckling and ending with the cross-sectional squash. The steel and concrete are able to working together to sustain extra loading. The reason is that the slab steel ribs act as good anchors on the concrete. At the same time, the profiled sheet exerts some confinement effect on the core concrete. Based on the above analysis, a simplified formula for calculating the axial compressive strength of DSCWs was suggested by considering the influence of local buckling of profiled steel sheet.
