Abstract

Since the double-skin steel plate concrete composite wall can be used as the lateral force resisting member, there are some advantages, such as high capacity, excellent energy dissipation and favorable ductility. Double-skin steel plate concrete composite walls in high-rise buildings are subjected to vertical loading, but the elastic buckling of steel plate is not allowed. Although the initial geometrical imperfection of steel plate is a critical influencing factor for the buckling stress,it was not considered in the calculation of the buckling stress. The finite element model(FEM)of double-skin composite walls was established by using ABAQUS in consideration of initial geometric imperfection of steel plate. The buckling strain of steel plate,load-displacement curves and failure modes obtained by FEM matched well with those from the test. The parametric analysis was conducted to study the influence of initial geometric imperfection, welding spot spacing-to-thickness ratio and steel yielding stress. The equation of steel plate buckling stress accounting for initial geometric imperfections was proposed.
