Abstract

Yielding failure is a main type of failure for hull structures. Change of yielding strength will bring significant influence on the design of hull structures. Relationship between yielding strength and temperature was studied for marine DH36 steel. Yielding strength of DH36 steel was determined with tensile tests under the temperature from -60℃ to 10℃, and functional dependence on temperature was obtained with data fitting. This phenomenon was explained from the microscopic view. The results show that yielding strength of Marine DH36 steel rises as the decrease of temperature at the range of -60℃ to 10℃ and obeys exponential law, while higher sensitivity to the temperature in the range of -60℃ to -20℃ than in the range of -20℃ to 10℃.
